K.D. Marine were formed in 1989 to fill a market niche for a more focused underwater contractor servicing the needs of the offshore oil and gas industry.

The need for a focused contractor was identified particularly where the work scope was relatively short or low in value yet still demanded the high degree of technical operational competence previously only associated with a large multi discipline contractor.
